Beat Around the Bush is a faux sex toy company I have generated a series of mock advertisements and branding elements for. Through innuendos, infiltration of stereotypically age-appropriate branding (Cath Kidston), and the subversion of vintage 1950s adverts, I aim to invite older women into conversations about their pleasure, liberating them with witty humour.
Through my research into how the older generation feels about their sex lives, I have deducted that the lack of visibility of older women in these markets is the main contributing factor to why they feel excluded from the conversation.
Using this project, I begin to explore how I can delicately approach this barrier to sexual freedom, putting older women at the forefront of my messaging. I chose to focus on innuendo because older people will often dance around using explicit sexual terminology in conversation, preferring to mask their discomfort with jokes, so it was a good way to ease them in to a highly sexually liberated attitude.
