Alter Ego

Lilith is my creative alter ego. She steps in when I get in my own way. She halts my imposter syndrome, speaks publicly in my place, gives me the confidence to apply for jobs and enter competitions, halts my procrastination, and pushed me to finish my degree to my best ability. She is courageous and outrageous.

In this project, I explored the self-distancing tactic of using an alter ego, connecting my dissertation to the topic, and visually expressed what Lilith means to me as a badass 21st-Century feminist alter ego. I named Lilith after the demon goddess from religious mythology, having been heavily inspired by the Talmudic characterisation of her. Through character design, narrative building, zine making and painted ceramics, I produced a comprehensive gallery that encapsulated the essence of how I want to show up in my illustrative practice. They come together as an altar I can return to when I am feeling lost or scared.

Lilith is constantly being built upon now, trickling into my personal life too. She will grow as my career grows and I hope one day I can be as fearless as she is.
